Woodman has two 400-bed housing units known as J and H. The Unit is also responsible for the screening and assessment of substance abuse offenders. The Jail has a capacity of about 900 inmates who are classified as J1, J2, J4, G1, G2 or transient and also serves as an intake and diagnostic facility for most of the female prisoners from surrounding areas. Woodman Unit is co-located with three other TDCJ units Crain, Murray, and Hilltop on 1,283 acres. Woodman State Jail is a minimum security state prison that houses female Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) offenders located in Gatesville TX in 1997. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
