![]() ![]() Do this!! Strengthen your posterior chain, and by this I mean your glutes and your hammies. I saw one comment with not too many upvotes saying to strengthen your posterior chain but they didn't really elaborate. Please don't listen to the people saying to just do more core and activate your core it can cause you more damage in the long run. Okay, I'm no expert but Ive had a lot of exercise physiology work done on this exact issue. Get the coordination, reinforce and remember the position, and then the easiest of the abdominal exercises that give you trouble. 'Crunches' with knees bent and feet flat as the first progressive exercise that will address your 'lower back pain' in abdominal exercises. 'Hollow Body Hold' exercise to reinforce the posterior pelvic tilt position 'Cat and Camel' exercise to gain coordination of the anterior and posterior pelvic tilt position With abdominal exercises, you want to have a posterior pelvic tilt. You mentioned you had an anterior pelvic tilt, this 100% would make the situation worse for you. I would assume the psoas (connecting from the lower back to the front of the hip) kicks in to perform the crunching motion after your abdominal muscles give out. your abdominal muscles cannot handle the task and another muscle is compensating. I concur and to add onto u/ImMrDC 's comment. We do not frown on weights or barbells as another tool for training.
